Mark and Jay are American college students vacationing in Vancouver to see the World’s Fair – Expo 86! Looking for something to do during the hours they are not at Expo, they meet a sexy, local waitress who directs them to a dance club, where Mark meets Cassie – the girl he didn’t even know he was dreaming of.
Mark is a swimmer looking to correct his college – and life – direction, feeling left behind, accused of wrongs he doesn’t know he’s committed, as well as those he knows he has – like almost killing a friend. Cassie is an artist who wants to escape her neighborhood, explore the world, and cure her self-doubt. Her family is not her problem – it’s her friends, some of whom mistreat her, and she’s trying to figure out who she should keep in her life.
Mark and Cassie fall recklessly in love, but his arrival upsets life in her circle. Cassie’s best friend and her ex-boyfriend would prefer to see Mark head back to the States sooner rather than later, by any means possible.
Fun at Expo leads to nights and days of music and passion, but also violence as Cassie’s past comes to try and reclaim her and Mark is put on defense, and an error in judgment could lead to the end of the love they’ve found for themselves.
Is Mark worthy of redemption and Cassie’s love, or should he just pack it in and harden his heart again?
